Touch of Keys Music Fine Arts recently celebrated another successful and inspiring “Music Matters” Scholarship Awards Gala at The Houston Club in downtown Houston, bringing together community leaders, business professionals, educators, artists, and supporters committed to investing in the next generation.

The annual event raises critical funds that directly support scholarships for deserving students pursuing their educational goals, while also helping expand the organization’s summer music and fine arts camp programs that provide underserved youth with opportunities to experience music, arts, and creative enrichment.

The evening recognized eleven outstanding honorees whose achievements and service continue to inspire young people and communities across the region:

  • Yolanda Adams, 4-time Grammy Award-winning artist
  • Damon Little, Grammy Award-winning artist
  • Jeffrey L. Boney, former Missouri City councilmember and Fort Bend County Democrat Treasurer nominee 
  • State Representative Ron Reynolds
  • Monica Riley, Missouri City Councilwoman
  • Dr. Harry L. Smith, McDonald’s owner/operator and founder of The Smith Foundation
  • Dr. Alton L. Lang Jr., Founder and CEO of Gospo-Fella Entertainment
  • Dr. Mya Smith Edmonds, McDonald’s operator, author, CPA, and co-founder of The Smith Foundation
  • Annastacia Edwards, salon owner, mentor, and educator
  • Melanie Bivens, TUTS Leading Ladies Educator of the Year and Sound Awards Music Educator of the Year
  • Jo Ann Woods, President and CEO of JAW Entertainment Group

Guests were inspired by the stories, accomplishments, and community impact of the honorees, whose journeys serve as powerful examples for students pursuing academic and artistic excellence.

The gala featured emcees Anthony Valary of KMJQ Majic 102.1 FM, ABC13 anchor Brandon Hamilton, and Dr. Sonia White, CEO of Smile Foundation. Notable attendees included U.S. Congressman Al Green, national recording artist Dr. Paulette Wright, and numerous community and business leaders.

For nearly two decades, Touch of Keys Music Fine Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Eric Gordon Wright, has provided scholarships, summer enrichment programs, and after-school fine arts opportunities throughout Houston and surrounding counties. The organization continues to make a lasting impact by exposing youth to music, dance, arts, sports, and educational experiences that help unlock their potential.

Touch of Keys Music Fine Arts is also recognized for helping launch the career of Grammy-nominated and platinum-selling recording artist MAJOR. Through its continued commitment to youth development, the organization remains dedicated to creating opportunities and transforming lives through the power of music and the arts.
